Ducks Unlimited: The Canadian Boreal Initiative recently presented its annual Boreal Awards to a select number of boreal conservation-minded Canadians. Among conservation leaders honored with the award were Ducks Unlimited Canada’s (DUC) nominees federal Transport Minister and former Environment Minister John Baird and the First Nation community of Fort Good Hope.

St. Mary River Irrigation District: The St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID) is Canada’s largest irrigation district delivering water through 2060 km (1280 miles) of canals and pipelines to approximately 150,500 hectares (372,000 acres) of land south of the Oldman and South Saskatchewan Rivers between Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.

City of Medicine Hat - from the mayor's 2009 State of the City Address: Medicine Hat became part of the South East Alberta Watershed Alliance (SEAWA), a watershed planning and advisory council whose members include interested individuals, communities, ranchers, farmers, industries, companies, governments, conservation groups and educational institutions. SEAWA is currently embarking on a State of the Watershed Report and will be working on a Watershed Management Plan in the future.

Cypress County: Watershed Group Formed - councillor Herb Scott was recently appointed as the County's member representative to the South East Alberta Watershed Alliance (SEAWA). This watershed planning and advisory council has been formed under the province's Water for Life Strategy. SEAWA's first official board of directors was elected at their inaugural Annual General Meeting on April 3rd at 3:00 pm at the Esplanade in the City of Medicine Hat. Herb will be the representative for rural municipalities.

Partners FOR the Saskatchewan River Basin: Since 1993, Partners FOR the Saskatchewan River Basin (PFSRB) has promoted stewardship and sustainability of the Saskatchewan River Basin, an international watershed stretching over the three Prairie Provinces and a portion of Montana. More than three million people live within the basin which includes the North Saskatchewan, Red Deer, Oldman, Bow, Highwood, South Saskatchewan, Battle, Saskatchewan, St. Mary, and Carrot Rivers.
